What To Expect When You Start Functional Nutrition Coaching With Me

If you’ve ever thought about working with a functional nutrition coach, but weren’t sure what the process actually looks like, I’m here to walk you through it step-by-step. My goal is to make this process as approachable, personalized, and empowering as possible. Whether you're dealing with chronic symptoms, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, or simply want to feel better in your body, here's how we’ll work together to create real, sustainable change.

And yes—if you're local, I do offer in-person sessions in Carbondale, Colorado, but I also work with clients virtually all over the country.

Step 1: The Free Consult Call

Every coaching journey begins with a 15-minute no-commitment phone or Zoom call. This isn’t a sales pitch—it’s a chance for both of us to see if we’re a good fit.

Functional nutrition is highly personal, and the truth is, not every coach is the right match for every client. You should feel like you can connect with me, ask questions freely, and trust that I understand the specific health challenges you’re facing- and I commit to letting you know if you'd be better off with someone else. On this quick call, we’ll talk about what you’re hoping to address, what kind of support you’re looking for, and whether I’m the right person to help you get there.

Step 2: The Deep-Dive Intake Form

If we decide to move forward, the next step is something most clients don’t expect: a very thorough intake form. This isn’t just a quick survey about your eating habits—it’s a deep dive into your whole lifestyle.

Why? Because food is just one part of the story.

This form covers everything from your daily routines, stress levels, and energy crashes to symptoms you may not have even connected to nutrition. I’ll ask about your digestion, sleep, mood, medical history, past lab tests, and what your gut instinct tells you is going on in your body.

Yes, I’ll want to see a food journal too—but I also want to know when you feel your best, what throws you off, and how you respond to life. These pieces are essential to designing a plan that’s not just based on data but rooted in your lived experience.

Step 3: The Intake Meeting After I review your intake form, we’ll schedule a 45-minute (or so) intake session—our first real coaching meeting. And here’s the catch: you’ll be doing most of the talking.

This is where we start to bring your story to life. You’ll walk me through your history, your current struggles, and your goals. I’ll ask a lot of questions—but not just about what you’re eating. I want to understand your daily rhythm, your stress triggers, your beliefs about food and health, and what’s felt hard or confusing in the past.

From there, we’ll begin to shape a personalized, realistic plan that reflects where you are right now. This isn’t about me assigning you a rigid program. It’s about co-creating a framework that takes into account your preferences, your challenges, and your biology.

Step 4: Ongoing Coaching + Adjustments

After the intake meeting, we move into ongoing support, which is where real transformation happens. We’ll meet regularly- either virtually or in person in Carbondale- to track progress, troubleshoot, and adjust your plan as needed.

Functional nutrition isn’t about quick fixes or trendy protocols. It’s about creating a deeper awareness of your body and learning how to work with it rather than against it.

Some clients need a few months of focused support. Others prefer longer-term coaching to navigate complex or chronic conditions. Either way, my role is to be your guide, your accountability partner, and your sounding board as we work toward sustainable wellness.
